Few months ago, I got the invitation to attend session on productivity technique Mind-Map. It was to be presented by a colleague in another department at STMicroelectronics Pvt Ltd, Greater Noida. I had been using this technique successfully for 7 years for now. But a very useful translation of some Shloka relating to 4-parts of learning just came to mind: - ¼ of learning happens from Guru/teacher, - ¼ from self-study, - ¼ from practice and - ¼ from peer discussion/experience sharing. It was a rare chance of peer sharing of rare technique. During and after the sessions, I went down my memory lane. First clear memory came of a time, when I shared this tool to a colleague who wanted to depict a directed-graph to demonstrate workflow of a GUI SW he was documenting. I had suggested ‘FreeMind’, a tool capable of drawing mind-maps. Mind-maps match Graph data structure very closely, so it naturally handles N-ary tree depiction. This pleased him and he successfully ...

"Developed country" the missing part of puzzle

[From wikipedia, April-29,2012] A  developed country  can be defined through economic growth and security. Most commonly the criteria for evaluating the degree of development is to look at gross domestic product (GDP), the per capita income, level of industrialization, amount of widespread infrastructure and general standard of living. [ 1 ] " Yes, per capita income is surely a good criteria for measuring certain aspects of society. "Jahan sumati, tahan sampaty nana,  jahan kumati tahan vipati nidhana" - Saint Kabeerdas Where there is goodwill wealth is multifold,  where there is ill-will, problems are multifold. But is this wealth as simply translatable to GDP for making index. Isn't something missing in this index.  If a person is very simple and doesn't need much, is honest and loving. I he not developed 'enough'. But the clarity came when I read through "Living with the Himalayan Masters" by Swami Rama. p18,  "In the vill...

State polls 2012 : whats good about it and what remains to be done

While other things will get clear, one thing is clear. Election commission executed very well. The results instill faith in execution of EC. For this we all should be very happy and grateful. Improvements remain though regarding - - Right to reject, - upper age limit (60) for candidates, (should not be in office after 65) - number of maximum parties at any place (5 or lesser), - no-vote options with some clear impact on results, etc. Because even after excellent and timely execution, results are leaving a major population "unrepresented".

Wireless USB dongle for Linux : Netgear N150 (WNA1100)

Hi friends, Few days ago, I needed to use Wireless dongle with Linux PC. As you all know, the Linux support is always the last thing that most device makers have in mind. Becoz of low % of users :( But anyway, I selected a widely available model - Netgear N150 (WNA1100) and got it to work. I though of sharing the steps for others to follow easily. URL : http://linuxwireless.org/en/users/Drivers/ath9k_htc Download and build =================== $cd compat-wireless-3.0-2/ $./scripts/driver-select atheros $make $sudo make install Firmware ======== This driver requires firmware. The newer, properly versioned firmware is at: http://wireless.kernel.org/download/htc_fw/. Newer firmware map: AR9271 - htc_9271.fw The firmware has to be placed in the correct location, usually /lib/firmware. On Ubuntu, please reboot for detection and auto-configuration.
